LIFE Sedremed’s 2023 Journey: From ECOMONDO to Pollutec and AquaConSoil

The LIFE Sedremed team is glad to share our recent experiences from a series of significant environmental conferences: ECOMONDO 2023 in Rimini, Italy, Pollutec 2023 in Lyon, France, and AquaConSoil in Prague, Czech Republic.

ECOMONDO 2023, Rimini

At ECOMONDO 2023, our team members Pietro Tedesco and Raffaele Vaccaro brilliantly presented the preliminary results of our mesocosms studies, detailing the on-site installation setup and discussing the critical policy aspects concerning the management of contaminated sediments. Their presentations provided valuable insights into our project’s progress and the innovative approaches we are adopting.

The panel “Sustainable strategies for reclaiming polluted sites,” organized by Donatella Giacopetti, Marco Petrangeli Papini, and Fabio Pascarella, was a highlight. This event offered an exceptional platform for sharing ideas and discussing new sustainable methods for site reclamation.

ECOMONDO also served as a fertile ground for exploring other ongoing projects in bioremediation and site restoration, enabling us to create synergies for future activities. We’re excited about the collaborations and knowledge exchange that took place.

Pollutec 2023, Lyon

At Pollutec 2023, our technology provider, Idrabel Environmental Biotechnology, represented the project with distinction. Christian Gennaux and Régis Verheyden were at the GreenWin and Wallonia Export & Investment Agency stand, engaging visitors and explaining the numerous applications of our remediation technology. This exposure was crucial in demonstrating the potential and versatility of our bioremediation approaches in various environmental settings.

AquaConSoil, Prague

AquaConSoil was a vibrant convergence of over 750 participants from science and industry, focused on the sustainable use and management of soil, sediment, and water resources. Kevin Kuntze from Isodetect GmbH represented our partnership, contributing to the enriching discussions on bioremediation and in-situ approaches for environmental sustainability.

Across all these events, the support from organizations such as Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn, Invitalia, Università Politecnica delle Marche, EKOGRID Oy, Nisida Environment, Isodetect GmbH, ISPRA, Sapienza Università di Roma, the European Commission, CINEA – European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, and the LIFE Programme has been indispensable. Their backing not only fuels our research but also extends our reach in influencing environmental policy and practice.

Stay tuned for more updates as LIFE Sedremed continues to break new ground in environmental restoration and remediation. Our journey is filled with exciting developments, and we can’t wait to share our next steps with you. Our participation in these conferences is just the beginning of a series of impactful initiatives aimed at fostering a sustainable future.
